When was the last time you read a good book and went on an adventure, learned something new, exercised your brain, and fed your curiosities?

It’s true that we were all taught to read to comprehend better and communicate. However, the benefits of reading a good book go far beyond that.

The more we read, the more we understand the business world around us. And when we read books, the more we discover life beyond what we already know.

We also aim “not” to take a myopic approach and concentrate all on business books alone. As business expectations become higher and 21st century technology more complex, interdisciplinary thinking will become more critical for businesses now and beyond. Interdisciplinary thinking entails the ability to understand an array of perspectives and approaches on a single issue and see how each of these influences one another. Reading business books gives you a myopic solution to issues rather than alternative ways to see issues. That is why we believe in interdisciplinary thinking approach. Interdisciplinary learning is a demanding commitment. We strongly believe there are sufficient gains to justify investing your time in reading interdisciplinary books. The rewards will be worthwhile.

Interdisciplinary Thinking and Four Cognitive Abilities:

Perspective-Taking Techniques: This refers to the capacity to understand multiple viewpoints on a given topic including an appreciation of the differences between disciplines and especially their perspectives on how to approach a problem and their rules of evidence.

Development of Structural Knowledge: This is composed of two elements, declarative knowledge (i.e., factual information) and Procedural Knowledge (i.e., process-based information), which are needed to solve complex problems’ student writing in a field notebook.

Integration of conflicting insights from alternative disciplines: When ideas from a variety of disciplines are embraced when investigating an issue alternative perspectives and predictions often arise. The intellectual challenge is to find ways to account for these which entails careful and creative thinking rather than revert to a single disciplinary explanation.

Interdisciplinary Understanding: This entails seeing an issue from an array of perspectives and recognizing how each of the alternative approaches influences one another.

Being able to draw from a diverse pool of readings enables us to seamlessly adjust our thinking, not only across verticals but across a wide range of business objectives for each of our needs.

And don’t forget, we really care for the environment, so help the environment and please consider an alternative to a paper book. Buy the Audible or Kindle version if available. Not only you will save couple hundred trees and reduce paper waste but you will be able to have 24/7 listening access to your books anywhere, anytime from your mobile smartphone!

Enjoy the reading and make sure you share with a friend, and better yet, make a startup founder’s journey easier by sharing with him or her. Thank you!

And some of our our favorite which must be read by all:

  1. The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli. Originally published: 1532, is a 16th-century political treatise written by Italian diplomat and political theorist Niccolò Machiavelli in the form of a realistic instruction guide for new princes. The Prince is a 16th century guide on how to be an autocratic leader of a country. It explains why ends like glory and power always justify even brutal means for princes. Thanks to this book, the word “Machiavellian” came to mean using deceit and cunning to one’s advantage. However, many totally miss the information behind this book. It is actually a warning of what certain people will do to accomplish their means at whatever the cost is. It’s a lesson on how people will use deceit, cunning treachery and not to fall prey for them. 2. Marcus Aurelius, Meditations: Meditations is a series of personal writings by Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor from AD 161 to 180, recording his private notes to himself and ideas on Stoic philosophy. Few ancient works have been as influential as the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius, philosopher and emperor of Rome (A.D. 161–180). A series of spiritual exercises filled with wisdom, practical guidance, and profound understanding of human behavior, it remains one of the greatest works of spiritual and ethical reflection ever written. Marcus’s insights and advice—on everything from living in the world to coping with adversity and interacting with others—have made the Meditations required reading for statesmen and philosophers alike, while generations of ordinary readers have responded to the straightforward intimacy of his style. For anyone who struggles to reconcile the demands of leadership with a concern for personal integrity and spiritual well-being, the Meditations remains as relevant now as it was two thousand years ago. Here is a free link, but you need to have this book in your library. There are several modern translations of Marcus Aurelius book on Meditations, make sure you buy the right one. https://www.google.com/books/edition/Meditations/vrNFAQAAMAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&printsec=frontcover
