Just read an article by David Beisel, Co-founder & Partner at NextView Ventures titled “Is Silicon Valley Obsessed With “Reinventing” Things That Already Exist?”
Instead of me repeating what he believes in do read it, here is a short link: http://bit.ly/2iIqOnX
He claims that disruption/innovation is the digitization of things that already exists! I don’t know about you folks but if we rely on this very simplified explanation of the new innovation & disruption thinking we are dead on our tracks. People like Beisel are supporting the regime of pushing our new talent base to look into old and existing things and turn them into (new?) digital versions of old stuff… (May I remind Juicero and few other disruptive new ways of doing things…)
This is not encouraging disruptive innovation, I think in the contrary it is putting our future generations into a solid stagnation of bunch of coders looking at making a “simpleton” easy button solution and raising millions upon millions of dollars for smartphone apps that create very little direct employment, very little social impact and very little true innovation…
If this is the mindset of the SV investeers (A new mixed word from Musketeers and Investors…) we are doomed!
We need to disrupt the SV way of thinking…
